With 25 years of Church Ministry experience, Mike Phillips proactively helps people and works toward meeting community needs. A minister since 1984, Mike has consistently sought for innovative ways to resolve a problem or issue that he is confronted with or committed to help someone else through a difficult circumstance.
Mike Phillips is a father of two children and husband of 19 years, a taxpayer, minister, writer, musician, activist, neighbor, and friend.
Forty-four year old, Mike Phillips was born in Little Rock, Arkansas. His parents were middle-class residents, his father a Bank Vice President and mother worked for a major manufacturer. While Mike lived, walked to school, and enjoyed the amenities of living in the city, his roots and love for rural living are strong due to his summers being spent on the family farm in nearby Faulkner County. His first job as a High School student was with the Department of Motor Vehicle, which gave him the love of a capitol city laid out much like Washington DC with two past Presidential Candidates (Bill Clinton and Mike Huckabee) keeping his interests in political circles peaked. While at the same time, his affection for rural living remains his passion today – as then – residing in La Plata, Maryland. Mike and his family enjoy the privileges of both urban and rural lifestyles in the heart of Charles County – a feature that makes Maryland “home” for the Phillips family.
An avid musician, Mike has been involved in music groups traveling the nation which was what brought him to Maryland for the first time at the age of 20 to a Baptist church in Baltimore and how he met his wife, Robin, for the first time in her home state of Delaware. Mike has recorded three vocal albums, his latest of which is “A United Country, A United County” a patriotic vocal work which includes a brief commentary of his vision of America, Maryland, and Charles County.
Mike’s hobbies include hunting, fishing, gardening, and music.
As one who determines to ACT when needs arise, Mike serves in a variety of public service positions outside of normal ministry responsibilities associated with church involvement. Mike and his wife Robin attend church with their children Savannah (14) and Johnathan (9) at Open Gate Ministries where Mark Roberson is pastor.
